Border Law has provided clear, practical legal advice to businesses and families in South Auckland for almost three decades.
Meet Bruce Stuart, solicitor
Bruce Stuart has had a varied career for a lawyer. Time spent working for a Lloyds broker in London sorting out their claims history, then as a corporate lawyer for NZ Steel during its massive capital expansion in the early 1980’s, working for law firms in Auckland City, in sole practice, then becoming an international master franchisor has given Bruce an unique “both sides of the fence” perspective on commercial life.
Interspersed with that Bruce has had a number of business ventures outside of law, the biggest being 4 years in the UK establishing an Australian franchise system in 5 different European jurisdictions. “I would be one of the few franchise lawyers in NZ who has been both a franchisor and franchisee” he says.
Bruce’s blend of legal and “hands on” commercial experience gives him greater insight into the real issues facing clients and he understands the pressures and realities of operating a business. As a result, his legal speciality is around immigration law, property law and commercial law generally together with related aspects such as wills and trusts, relationship property and dispute resolution.
“I am as interested in the clients’ commercial activities as I am in solving their legal issues. It is always fascinating to see what people do to earn a living” says Bruce. “It is important to simplify the legal issues so the clients can easily understand what is going on.”
Bruce has been married for 28 years to Anne. They have two adult children. He loves nothing better in the weekend than spending time in his workshop making things or tinkering with his classic sports car.
